BMWCCH High Performance Driving Events
Our chapter holds two marquee driving events per year, The Aloha 500 and Spring Fling. These events are not marque specific as all makes and models are welcome!
The Aloha 500
The inaugural Aloha 500 was held in November 1999. This event was the brainchild of then President, David Snow and Driving Events Coordinator, Owen Farrior. It was David's idea to provide a BMWCCA High Performance Driving School for our Hawaii members. It was a 2 day event in which the first day was dedicated to a Car Control Clinic and the second day was dedicated to on-track instruction.
In subsequent years, the dates have moved away from November to coincide with such events as 02/02/2002 to celebrate the historical significance of the 2002s, or available track dates. In 2004, the Aloha 500 returned to November and the original 2 day format. The Aloha 500 is sponsored by BMW of Honolulu.
Spring Fling
Spring Fling was the idea of outgoing President, Bryan Okubo and DEC, Owen Farrior to provide additional driving events for our members. Apparently, one DE was not enough for our members as Bryan and Owen would get a barrage of calls whenever an Aloha 500 was completed.
The inaugural Spring Fling was held in 2003. This one day event is sponsored by BMW of Honolulu.
In addition to the Aloha 500 and Spring Fling, we hold driving events throughout the year. We hold a Mystery Rally, Oktoberfest Run, Poker Rally and participate in the Haleiwa Christmas Parade. Tech sessions are held twice a year to inspect our vehicles for the Aloha 500 and Spring Fling. Additional tech sessions and DIY sessions are held as member demand dictates.
